SERVPRO of South Colorado Springs - South Colorado Springs Water Loss

Water loss incidents happen at any time, even in the middle of the night. Our SERVPRO team was called to a home where a water supply line for the washing machine had broken. The line released a considerable volume of water into the surrounding areas including the hallway and bedrooms upstairs. Bryson Williams, the crew chief at SERVPRO of South Colorado Springs gives a walkthrough of the loss left by the spilled water.

"Around 4 O'clock, we got a call for a water loss… We got here about 30 minutes from the call." Bryson states. After water loss, fast response is the most potent weapon against the damages that occur. Every passing hour allows more water to permeate into materials such as wood, carpets and other house contents, which can lengthen the drying process. Relative humidity in the entire house also increases the longer the affected areas remain wet because some of the water evaporates naturally. SERVPRO understands this need for speed, so we respond fast when customers call.

"The water supply line leaked, and leaked its way through the carpet and tile," Bryson says as he explains the genesis of the problem. Identifying the source helps ensure the restoration exercise follows the correct trajectory. In this case, extracting water from rooms on the upper floors first was our priority to ensure that water flowing down would not affect removal on the ground floor.

Proper drying is part of the mitigation efforts after water loss incidents, and it requires the right equipment to be successful. "These are our air movers …these are dehumidifiers," Bryson explains our arsenal of moisture removal equipment set in the living room. Air movers help improve the evaporation rate while dehumidifiers provide heat and extract moisture from the air, fast-tracking the drying process. "We set equipment for the drying, for three to five days and it'll be like nothing happened," Bryson concludes.
